The equine hot stone massage
Presentation
The hot stone massage is used to calm and relax the horse from his daily stress. It is a mixture of palpations to peel the skin of the muscle and slow movements with the stone, in the same place so that the heat of the stones is effective in the heart of the muscle.
The hot stone massage is practiced with polished and smooth volcanic basalt stones heated to a temperature between 50 and 60 ° C, in a bath of hot water at constant temperature. The magnesium iron silicate, which compose them, has the particularity of keeping the heat very long, a heat that will diffuse slowly in contact with the skin.
I observed during these massages, a huge relaxation of the horses. Once hot stones are accepted, their breathing becomes slower and more regular. They are calm, giving way to yawning and machouille with almost closed eyes.
